How to Buy a Diamond on a Budget Without Compromising Luxury
There's a stubborn myth that diamonds are only for people with unlimited budgets. Not anymore. Whether you have ₹20,000 or ₹3 lakh to spend, you can buy a certified diamond that looks and feels special. Here's how to get the most from your money.
Tip 1: Choose lab-grown
The single biggest saving is choosing a lab-grown diamond. It's identical to a mined diamond in chemistry, hardness and brilliance, but typically costs 70–85% less per carat. That's the difference between a small stone and a statement one. Read why lab diamonds cost less.
Tip 2: Put cut first
Cut decides how much a diamond sparkles, more than any other C. An excellent cut will outshine a poorly cut stone of higher colour and clarity every time. Never trade cut for size.
Tip 3: Don't overpay for grades you can't see, but don't settle either
With mined diamonds, buyers often drop to G–H colour and SI clarity because top grades cost lakhs more. With lab-grown, that premium shrinks dramatically, so colourless E/F and VVS clarity are within reach of most budgets. You get a whiter, cleaner stone without the old trade-off.

Tip 4: Buy just under the magic numbers

Micro-pavé, halos and complex metalwork add to the price. A clean four- or six-prong solitaire or a bezel setting shows off the diamond and often looks more modern.
Tip 7: Watch the making charges
